Ahoy: the new Graphene Flagship Annual Report is out!

The latest Graphene Flagship Annual Report presents our most exciting innovations for 2021. For the first time ever, it incorporates a dedicated section for our 2D Experimental Pilot Line, as well as five features about the fantastic opportunities of graphene and layered materials. Read on and discover 84 pages of research, innovation and collaboration! Enjoy the #GrapheneExperience.

Every year, the Graphene Flagship publishes its Annual Report, a publication that highlights the project’s most exciting outputs over the previous year. Since 2020, our Graphene Flagship Annual Report presents an innovative and interactive design, with carefully curated content for everyone’s enjoyment.

The different sections highlight the results of our diverse research and innovation teams – including Work Packages, Spearhead Projects, the 2D Experimental Pilot Line, as well as our Associated Members and Partnering Projects. This year, we have dedicated our Annual Report to collaboration, a cornerstone of the Graphene Flagship since its foundation in 2013. Many different initiatives – including scientific papers, patents and projects – have sparked from casual collaborations, we’ve highlighted many examples throughout the 84 pages of the Graphene Flagship Annual Report.

Beyond scientific results, the Graphene Flagship Annual Report includes five features – long-form articles about the applications of graphene and layered materials in electronics, energy, sustainability and health. Furthermore, we focus on the opportunities that graphene offers to tackle European missions and challenges, such as the scarcity of raw materials and the semiconductor shortage – both key to achieving digital sovereignty in the near future.

Collaboration and cooperation have brought the Graphene Flagship further toward its original goals. Therefore, this year’s Annual Report also covers initiatives like our international workshops and partnerships with EU Member States.

Finally, we keep invested in innovation, highlighting the success of our Spearhead Projects. These initiatives, which currently account for one third of our budget, target high-technology readiness level prototypes and products, some of which will reach the European market by 2023. Led by industrial partners like Airbus, Fiat-Chrysler and Nokia, the Spearheads support a sustainable shift towards the new economy.

Enough scuttlebutt! Download the Graphene Flagship Annual Report or enjoy the dynamic digital version here. And stay tuned to our social media for more engaging content and summaries of the latest Graphene Flagship innovations.

The Graphene Flagship has demonstrated the power of European collaboration. This collaboration allows us to tackle challenges that no individual country or organisation would be able take on by themselves.
