What is Graphene Week?

EU Funded

An opportunity to explore the 2D Materials of tomorrow!

As Europe's leading and longest-running event on 2D Materials, Graphene Week stands at the forefront of cutting-edge research, innovation and technology. Supported by the European Commission, it unites over 500 international experts and students to discuss key topics concerning graphene and related 2DM, and has done so for the past 19 years!

In 2024 the programme will welcome over 200 speakers, including special programming on innovation, diversity, early career development, future EC opportunities, 2DM for the future and much more. This is all in addition to our exhibition area and 2DM pavilion, where attendees will have the opportunity to network and explore current applications and products.

What is Graphene Week

Brief History

Established in 2006, Graphene Week holds the distinction of being the longest-running nonprofit event in the field of graphene and 2D materials. Since its creation, this event has played a central role in shaping the discourse surrounding graphene research and its innovation.

It all began with a gathering of 47 graphene experts in Dresden in 2006, who met to explore the potential of this groundbreaking material, isolated by Nobel laureates Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov just two years prior, in 2004.

Over the years, this event has continuously evolved to embrace new developments and discoveries in the field. In 2013, Graphene Week's path merged with that of the Graphene Flagship, marking a significant turning point. As graphene's landscape expanded, so too did Graphene Week, encompassing diverse fields, from applications to innovations.

Now in its 19th edition, Graphene Week continues to attract interest from various fields such as aerospace and biomedicine, showcasing graphene's endless possibilities. What sets Graphene Week apart is its nonprofit status, developing an environment of collaboration and innovation, where attendees can engage in discussions, interactive workshops, and poster sessions.

Graphene Week promises a diverse and enriching journey, inviting you to be part of the ongoing advancement in graphene exploration and innovation at this year's event.

Why attend Graphene Week 2024?

All-in-1 event

Graphene Week 2024 brings back breath-taking in-person events – with plenary and parallel sessions, industrial innovation, a dedicated early-career branch and many opportunities for collaboration. On top of regular sessions and lectures, Graphene Flagship events gather unique events to foster innovation and collaboration. The Graphene Innovation Forum is back, in addition to a special session on Diversity in Graphene.

Networking & Connect

Graphene Week 2024 in Prague is the best place to network. The event gathers experts from Europe, and all around the world, coming from leading academic institutions, innovative SMEs and our leading industrial partners. Enjoy poster sessions, lunch receptions and coffee breaks to meet new people, broaden your horizons and establish new fruitful collaborations. Additionally, the event will offer unique social activities, organised by our local hosts in the Czech Republic. All great opportunities to connect with new people! The #GrapheneExperience is back.

Oustanding Programme

Our Graphene Week 2024 chairs combine academic expertise and industrial innovation. This diversity is reflected in our International Scientific Programme Committee, who have worked hard to gather an outstanding line-up of speakers from different backgrounds, all leading experts in the field of graphene and 2D materials. We expect over 500 abstract titles, split between oral communications and poster presentations. Prague is the place to learn about 2D materials this year, and celebrate 20 years since the isolation of graphene!

Standardisation Workshop

Advanced materials, such as nanomaterials, 2D materials, or thin films, play a crucial role in driving economic development and addressing major challenges in the coming years. These challenges include mitigating the impact of climate change, advancing lightweight engineering, enhancing catalysis, and improving medical applications. To comprehend the performance of these materials and ensure their acceptance across various sectors as safe and sustainable for both humans and the environment, the availability of reference procedures, materials, and data is essential. One versatile tool for establishing such references and evaluating the proficiency of individual laboratories and their competencies is through (international) interlaboratory comparisons (ILC). Notably, initiatives like the Versailles Project on Advanced Materials and Standards (VAMAS) provide a platform for conducting ILCs. This webinar will showcase various examples of interlaboratory comparisons, illustrating their impact on the development of reference products.
